Changing Passwords

Need to reset your password?

If a Northeastern password is lost, forgotten, or expired, reset it as soon as possible to access the account. To make it as convenient as possible, a secure self-serve reset is available in many instances. The identity of the account holder is verified either through two-factor authentication or a security question.

To reset a password, visit accounts.northeastern.edu and follow the link for a forgotten password.

Student, Alumni, Family/Other Accounts

Manage your password, even if you’ve forgotten your password or it has expired, by visiting accounts.northeastern.edu. Follow the link for forgotten passwords. Then, follow the below steps.  

  1. Have your device or method for Duo two-factor authentication verification handy.  
  2. Enter your Northeastern user ID and click Find Email Addresses. 
  3. Select an email address from the list of those associated with your account. A password reset link will be sent to that address.  
  4. Click the reset link in the email and authenticate using your preferred Duo 2FA method to verify your identity. 
  5. Enter a new password for the account, following the steps for changing passwords. 

If you don’t have access to any of the email addresses associated with your account, don’t have a method of verifying your identity via Duo 2FA, or encounter any other issues with resetting your password, please contact the IT Service Desk

Faculty, Staff, and Sponsored Accounts

Manage your password, even if you’ve forgotten your password or it has expired, by visiting accounts.northeastern.edu. Follow the link for forgotten passwords. Then, follow the below steps.  

  1. Select Forgot Password? link on the Northeastern Identity Manager page. 
  2. Answer your security question associated with your account.  
  3. Enter a new password for all resources, following the steps for changing passwords. 

If you don’t have access to any of the email addresses associated with your account, don’t have a method of verifying your identity via Duo 2FA, or encounter any other issues with resetting your password, please contact the IT Service Desk
